Like a fine wine, this chocolate merle delight just gets better as he ages!  Mason has dramatically changed color as he has grown.  Despite many long coated Chihuahuas not being easily identifiable at birth, this little man had long locks from day one.  At first we considered him a blue merle like his Mama, but by 8-9 weeks old a gorgeous milk-chocolate streak appeared on the top of his head.  Months later, his body is primarily this soft chocolate merle with some blue highlights.  His green eyes stand out against his long coat.  He has the look of a Fenning fox, only smaller of course!  We always tell people that the Chihuahua growth and weight chart is simply a guide and that a dog can get larger or smaller and so far, Mason is growing much more slowly than the charting would have led us to believe.  We do not weigh more than about once a month, but at 16 weeks, he only weighed in at 1.7#.  Based on this and his petite frame, we believe Mason will likely finish out like his father Rufus or smaller.  At 5 months, Mason is 5" tall at the withers and weighs 2#.  Most importantly to us, Mason sports an outgoing and boisterous personality!  He knows no enemies and loves everyone but is partial to his human Dad, Dennis who is a brick mason.  I guess little Mason must know he is his Daddy's namesake!  Born April 15, 2008.

No two puppies are alike nor could they ever be!  However, if you are looking for a long or smooth coated merle, look no further.  We chose to keep Mason because we have found that a great majority of the merle puppies (especially studs) available are not the petite cobby Chihuahua that the breed standard calls for.  Midwest Chihuahuas proudly breeds and makes available merle Chihuahuas that have the structure a Chihuahua should have, cobby bodied, appleheaded with small noses and good stops. Satinka will likely never be bred to another Chihuahua than Rufus as the results have been just too perfect and who wants to mess with perfection!

This charming, obedient boy is truly what everyone wants in a Chihuahua.  Affectionate when you let him be, he will stop anything when asked.  Mason is smart and a very fast learner!  Mason is completely housebroken and a quiet Chihuahua, not at all barky and NEVER shaky, scared or hesitant. Very social and outgoing, Mason is beginning training in the summer of 2009 toward his Canine Good Citizen certification on his way to be a service dog (therapy dog training).  This sweet boy is personality plus and will produce happy, healthy pups!
